Taco Seasoning Recipe

Making your own taco seasoning at home is not only healthier than the store-bought versions, but also more cost-effective. Free from preservatives and artificial flavors, this recipe gives a more natural taste. It produces enough seasoning for 1 pound (500 grams) of meat and can also be used for quesadilla fillings.

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  1. Mix all the listed ingredients thoroughly to create a homogenous blend.
  2. Transfer the mixture into a clean, dry airtight container for storage.
  3. This recipe yields about 2.5 tablespoons of taco seasoning. To use, blend this mixture with 500 grams of ground meat, half a cup of water, one finely chopped onion, and two tablespoons of tomato paste. Cook until the meat is well-seasoned and thoroughly cooked.

Notes

If you're in the US, avoid using what's typically labeled as chili powder, as it is a blend of spices rather than pure ground chilies. If pure ground chili is not available, you can substitute it with cayenne pepper. I prefer using pure ground chili for making taco seasoning because it lets me manage the flavor consistency better. Chili powder varies not only internationally but also from brand to brand within the US. Opting for pure spices ensures a more consistent flavor profile.
