This sugar cookie recipe is quick and easy to make with basic ingredients. They're delicious on their own or with added candies. My friend tops them with chocolate mints, and they taste fantastic!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder, stirring until well mixed.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter and white sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well incorporated. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, blending thoroughly until a dough forms.
  4. Shape the dough into walnut-sized balls, and place them on ungreased baking sheets, ensuring they are spaced 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies turn golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
