Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 ½ Tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Start by trimming and rinsing the green beans. Once washed, drain them in a colander and pat dry to remove any excess moisture.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the green beans along with the minced garlic, onion powder, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir the ingredients together, ensuring the beans are evenly coated.
  3. Sauté the beans for 8-10 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of tenderness, stirring occasionally to prevent burning and ensure even cooking. Once the beans are cooked to your liking, remove them from the heat and serve immediately.

Notes

If you prefer your green beans a bit softer without them browning in the pan, try adding an ice cube to the center of the skillet during the last minute of cooking. The ice will create steam, so cover the pan and let the beans finish cooking. This trick combines the best of both sautéing and steaming!
