  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • ½ cup tomato sauce

Method
 

  1. Warm the vegetable oil in a sizable saucepan set over medium heat. Add the uncooked rice and season it with garlic salt and cumin. Stir the mixture continuously until the rice becomes puffed and takes on a golden hue.
  2. Incorporate the chopped onion, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion softens. Pour in the chicken broth and tomato sauce, then bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. After cooking, gently fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
