Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: Mexican

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1/2 small lime juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can black beans or pinto beans partially drained

Method

  1. Partially drain the liquid from a can of black beans or pinto beans and transfer them to a pan.
  2. Use an immersion blender to puree the beans directly in the pan until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
  3. Add the garlic powder, sea salt, black pepper, cumin, chili powder, and a squeeze of lime juice. Mix well to incorporate the spices evenly.
  4. Place the pan over medium heat and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beans are heated through and the flavors meld together.
  5. Serve your homemade refried beans warm on burritos, nachos, tacos, or as a flavorful dip. Enjoy the rich and zesty taste!

Notes

Adjust the amount of liquid you drain from the beans based on your desired consistency. For a spreadable yet not overly thick texture, drain about half of the liquid. Keep in mind that the beans will naturally thicken when refrigerated.
