Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz Jar maraschino cherries including juice (stems removed)
  • 1 ¼ cup fresh lime juice
  • 2 liters of lemon-lime soda such as Sprite
  • 1 ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cherry juice either tart or regular

Method

  1. Place lime juice and sugar into a small saucepan and heat over a gentle flame.
  2. Continuously stir the mixture until the sugar completely dissolves and it takes on a syrup-like consistency.
  3. Once done, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
  4. Transfer the cooled syrup to a large pitcher.
  5. Incorporate the maraschino cherries with their juice, lemon-lime soda, and cherry juice into the pitcher.
  6. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  7. Serve the cherry limeade over ice in glasses.

Notes

The cherry essence intensifies over time, so for a party, combine the cherries, cherry juice, and lime syrup in advance and let it meld overnight. Add the soda just before serving to maintain its effervescence, though I've pre-mixed everything the night before and it retained its fizziness perfectly the next day.
