Ingredients

  • 12 to 15 fresh basil leaves preferably holy basil
  • 1 lb. ground chicken breast
  • 3 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons of fish sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of chili flakes
  • Ground black pepper as desired

Method

  1. Begin by heating the cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the pan, sautéing until fragrant, then incorporate the chili flakes to infuse the oil.
  3. Introduce the ground chicken to the pan, breaking it apart as it cooks for about 3 minutes, until it starts to brown slightly.
  4. Mix in the fish sauce followed by the brown sugar, stirring well. Allow the mixture to simmer on medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until most of the liquid has been absorbed and the chicken is thoroughly cooked.
  5. Fold in the fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of ground black pepper, cooking for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until the basil is wilted and aromatic.
  6. Remove from heat and transfer the basil chicken to a serving dish.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy with family and friends!
